About Girrabong Studio And Artist Marika Jackson

Although probably best known for acrylic paintings on canvas, I'm constantly exploring a wide range of expressive possibilities in drawing, printing, photography, sculpture, poetry and dance as well as painting.

Much of my work is figurative but I certainly don't ever aim to simply represent or record realities. Whether loved or hated, my wish is that my work should be recognised for originality and quality.

For yachts at anchor, riverside gums or quaint rustic scenes you'll need to look elsewhere.

At the core of my work lies the principle that the idea is every bit as important as the aesthetic, and the idea is just that. It is a starting point. I don't aim to make statements or tell stories. I simply try to present an idea, a visual spark or riddle that may stir something in you.

The story is yours, not mine,
especially when you've paid for it.
